Churches and
ecumenical organisations in Latin America, through their service arms, are
increasingly influencing social and cultural change in their communities
while also affecting political and economic developments. They do this by
collaborating with one another and with other sectors of civil society.
Churches and
ecumenical organisations seek to strengthen themselves so as to raise the
quality of what they do. Thus it is important to offer activities and
processes that will nourish their institutional capacity, sense and
purpose, and enable them to achieve their objectives fully.
Creas is an interdisciplinary network
of Christian professional men and women.
It
aims to increase the capacity of the ecumenical movement, local churches
and grassroots community organisations to promote human rights – civil,
political, economic, social and cultural.
Creas identifies itself as part of
the Ecumenical Movement, understanding this
as a coming together of people and organisations that take on, from their
Christian faith, a commitment to human dignity.
Creas
promotes diaconal work as an instrument of justice.
Creas works
in South America with a regional perspective. It is present in eight
countries of the Andean Region and the Southern Cone – Colombia, Ecuador,
Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay – and collaborates
actively with organisations in Brazil. It also maintains contacts with
related experiences in other countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
